sara haakTop Marion seniors

Valedictorian Sara J. Haak is the daughter of Jason and Linda Haak of 3669 Mill Street. Sara has a cumulative academic grade point average of 96.51 percent.

Sara has been active participating in extracurricular activities. Sara has played soccer and track all four years, has been a member of the National Honor Society, Project Alert, Varsity Club and the German Exchange Program (GAPP).

She has achieved such honors as being selected as a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship, American Chemical Society Recognition Award, The Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, NAVY Honors of Achievement for academic excellence in Math and Science and the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship. Sara also works part-time at the Marion Public Library.

Sara will be attending Messiah College to major in biology.

Jacob R. HurlbertJacob R. Hurlbert, son of Denise and Christopher Scheg of South Main Street, Dan Hurlbert of Henrietta, is the Salutatorian of the Marion Class of 1998. Jacob qualifies for this honor by accumulating an academic average of 94.39 over the past four years.

Jacob has been a member of the National Honor Society, is currently playing Varsity Baseball and has an avid interest in golf. Jacob has been awarded the NAVY Honors Certificate of Achievement for academic excellence in Math and Science and The American Chemical Society Recognition Award. Jacob also holds a part-time Job at IGA in Palmyra.

He plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in business/finance.
