Clinton St. bridge will close
By Donna Comella

The Clinton St. bridge will officially close to traffic on June 29. What was originally slated to be a two-year project, the bridge re-construction is now due to be completed in November.

Newark Highway Manager Jim Sadler said Wednesday that the new bridge is on the calendar to open on November 13. And according to Village Clerk Mike Tonovitz, the re-constructed East Ave. bridge will be complete at about the same time.

Tonovitz said that specifications will be ready for bid in June; the bid probably awarded in July; and the project completed in November.

"...We will have two more bridges by Christmas," said Tonovitz, "and the completion of the West Shore Boulevard extension will provide a third alternative."

Sadler said he hopes that the new West Shore road to the Stebbins bridge will be finished in July. Arcadia Highway crews were at work on the road this week, so Arcadia Highway Superintendent David Harder could not be reached for comment by presstime. But according to the report he filed last month, his crew is nearly two weeks ahead of schedule on the project.
