Don't forget to vote Tomorrow, voters head to the polls for another election. This time, the big races are state-wide: there are a total of 10 candidates who are running for incumbent Governor George Pataki's seat. Other state-wide elections include those for Comptroller and Attorney General. Voters must also decide who will represent us in the US Senate and elect a new Represenative for the 27th Congressional District to replace a retiring Bill Paxon. Rounding out the ballot are State Senator Mike Nozzolio and Assemblyman Bob Oaks. Both GOP incumbents are opposed by Right To Life candidates from Newark. (See below.) County Treasurer Tom Warnick is running unopposed, as is Arcadia Town Clerk Diane Allerton. Republican Allerton has held the Clerk's post since April, when she was appointed to fill the term of retiring Hazel Herdman. This election will cement her post for the remainder of Herdman's term. Next November, Allerton will have to run again for a full four-year term (2000 to 2004). Before accepting Herdman's duties, Allerton was Deputy Clerk and had been in that position since July 1992. Newark candidates opposing incumbents Right To Life challenges Nozzolio, Oaks Listed on Tuesday's ballot against Mike Nozzolio is Laura Jacobsen of Wilson Street, and, opposing Bob Oaks, is Carol Archunde of Washington St. Without the two Newark candidates running on the Right To Life ticket, the NYS Senator and Assemblyman would be unopposed. Nozzolio and Oaks are both Republicans with endorsements from the Conservative Party. Democrats have no candidates in the running for either seat. Archunde said that she's running because she really believes people should have a choice when they enter the booth. "When there's only one person running, you can't really exercise your right to vote. You either vote for that person or not at all." A registered member of the Right To Life Party for about 15 years, Archunde says that even people who don't know her from a "hole in the wall" now at least have a choice. She says she has not campaigned, and is sure many will be surprised to even see her name on the ballot. Jacobsen declined to comment on her candidacy. Copyright
