volleyball teamStellar year for Reds volleyball

The Newark High School volleyball team's championship season came to an end on October 30. The Lady Reds dropped a 3-0 decision to the Victor Blue Devils at Geneseo High school in the Class BB sectional championship match.

The top-seeded Reds (18-2) dropped the first set 15-13. In the set Newark led 8-7 before Victor bounced right back to take a 11-9 lead. The Reds rallied to take a 13-11 lead. Newark led 13-12 with service.

Amy Hares and Sarah Coolidge Victor's Shannon Fiandach made a diving stab at a net ball that dropped over the net. Tournament Most Valuable Player Jen Zagursky had five kills and three aces.

In the second set, the Reds were tied at five all and took a 8-7 lead. Victor with serve bounced right back to take the set 15-9.

In the final set, the Lady Reds dropped a 15-15-2 decision being down 10-0 at one point.

Amy Hares and Sarah Coolidge (pictured with trophies) were named to the All Tournament team.

Coolidge, Kadi Burgess and Hares were named to the Finger Lakes East All League first team. April Allen and Kristina Polson are on the second team.

Hares and Polson will play in the Senior Exceptional All Star game on November 13 at 7 p.m. at Midlakes High School.

 

Hares had two aces, 12 assists and three kills. April Allen had three kills and two blocks. Crystal McIlwain had five assists. Kadi Burgess contributed five kills, Kim Golding had five kills and Coolidge had four.
