Reds cross country had great year

The Newark boys were undefeated during the regular Cross Country Track season. They boasted a perfect 24-0 mark after downing Mynderse 19-43, Sodus 16-40, South Seneca 15-50 at Silver Hill in Newark on October 27.

Jesse Contario placed first overall in the race with a time of 18:15. Peter Chambers was third (18:30) and Jeff Smith fourth (18:44). Pat Tellier was fifth (18:58) and Eric Capostagno was seventh (19:06).

The boys finished the regular season with a share of the Finger lakes East Championship after placing second in the League championship on October 31 at Newark. Newark finished behind the winning Waterloo Indians scoring 63 points; the Indians had 50 points.

Canandaigua was a distant third with a team total of 98 points followed by Pal-Mac's 182 points. Waterloo and Newark have 47-1 won/lost marks.

Placing first in the race was Nick Carr of Waterloo with a time of 16.57.72. Contario placed second in the race in 17:21.58. Chambers was third at 17:30.96. Tellier was 13th overall (18:26.42).

Other Newark finishers included Jeff Smith 21st, Capostagno 24th, Greipsma 43rd, and Barry 51st. There were 139 runners in the boys race.
