By Carolyn Adriaansen (926-4436) The Fall Sports Awards Ceremony originally scheduled for Thursday, November 19, has been rescheduled due to the auditorium renovation. The ceremony will be combined with the winter awards ceremony on Thursday, March 18. The Marion Central School Board of Education has changed the meeting scheduled for December 7 to Monday, November 30. The meeting will be in the High School Library at 7 p.m. These students submitted winning videos for the Red Ribbon Week Contest. First place: Peter Kelley, Mollie Angie, Alina Nadir, Liz Boerman and Jenny Devlin; 2nd - Joette Maynard, Angela Johnson, Wendy Brusso, Lindsay Brown, Alyse Sherman, Heather Morrow; 3rd - Rachel Hutt, Rachel Brooks, Christine Green, Crista Rich, Erin Pomerantz, Angela Johnson. Congratulations to the girls cross country team, the 1998 Wayne FInger Lakes Central Division Co-Champs. On the team are Rebecca Lewis, Liz Boerman, Crystal Wheeler, Makena Mason, Deb Hussey, Kristina Lewis and Erin Pomerantz. Rebecca, Liz and Crystal earned League All Star places. Rebecca is a Super Seven winner as well. Junior Mark Hussey placed 6th out of more than 200 runners to win both a Wayne Finger Lakes All Star place, and a League Super Seven. Jane Bovet was Marion's fastest modified team runner at the championships. "Snowmen fall from heaven unassembled." Turkey and sirloin beef tips party is planned by the Fire Department on November 14 at the Marion Fire Hall, 7:30 p.m. Refreshments and door prizes. David Hendricks is home following surgery at the Rochester General Hospital. "Happy Birthday Wishes" to Mary Filibert on November 19. November 17, 1921: The vote on the appropriation of $700 for the support of the library and rest room was carried. There were 162 votes for and 40 votes against. November 18 - National Honor Society Inductions. November 20 - Family Night Rollerskating party sponsored by the Marion PTA, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Marion Elementary School gym. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Laura Means just returned from a two-week trip to Denmark. She spent time with her former exchange student, Soren Paulsen, and also spent some time in Copenhagen. Albert and Dolores Somerset enjoyed their trip to the 81st Infantry reunion which was held at Branson, Missouri. Margaret Michielsen is recovering from cataract surgery. Rog and Gen Adriaansen, accompanied by Don and Barb Naeye enjoyed an October Fall Foliage Trip on the "Fairport Lady." Anna Hoffman is now a resident of the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons. You can visit her in room 202. An AARP 55 and Alive driving course may be held in the fellowship hall, at the United Church, on Monday and Tuesday evenings, December 7 and 8. Call the church office at 926-5501. "The Street of Shoppes," the bazaar at the United Church, sponsored by the women's guild will be held on November 14 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Featuring craft, bake and candle shoppes, attic treasures, Christmas shoppe, garden and wood shoppe, kiddie corner, reuzelbollen from 8:30 till noon and lunch served from 11:30-1 p.m. An update on the "Make a Difference Day" at the United Church. Both Linda and Steve Schutt donated the use of their trailer and drove to Rochester to deliver the 76 bikes and blankets. Also, George Beadle, Terri Crane, Debi and Frank Halstead and Dori McKay for collecting the bikes. Mark's Pizza, of Marion, for delivering a pizza lunch and to Wal‘Mart in Newark for their donation of 25 scratched bikes and parts. The Youth Group leaders are Linda DePoint and Barb Wilson. Participating young people are: Greg Barton, Josh Beadle, Rebecca Crane and Megan DePoint, Daniel and Crystal Halstead, Ben Kittle, Shari McKay, Kari Miller, Jared Schutt, Samantha Webb and Josh Wilson. This group made the THUMBS UP section of the editorial page of the Democrat and Chronicle. On All-Saints Day, November 1... several memorial gifts were dedicated at the morning service at the United Church. New hymn numbers were dedicated in memory of George Crayton; dinnerware in memory of Gertrude Naeye; liquid altar candles in memory of Adrian Blankenberg; a pewter communion chalice and plate in memory of Hilda Mason and Anna Gobeyn.
