Veterinarian hopes to build clinic
Industrial Park going to the dogs?
By John Zornow

Newark Village Board members heard a proposal last night by Dr. Rebecca Skinner, a veterinarian from Canandaigua.

She presented plans to build a veterinary hospital on two acres of land in the Industrial Park on West Shore Blvd. Dr. Skinner unveiled her proposal to village officials who explained the Community Development loan program and referred her to the Planning Board for site plan approval.

Skinner indicated that within 2-4 years she would expect to have a staff of 4-7 and maybe another staff veterinarian. Newark has not had a local veterinarian since the retirement of Dr. Nicholas Berry.

Craig Cameron appeared before the board to ask for help in developing Jason Drive, off upper Peirson Avenue. Cameron has a purchase offer in for 30 acres of land and hopes to develop and build 58 single-family homes. Discussion was held as to whether reimbursement to the developer can be made before houses are built. Village Attorney Art Williams indicated that only when homes are constructed can the village assume title and reimburse the developer for the roads. Mayor Fred Pirelli assured Cameron that the village will have sufficient funding for this program, so that his project can move forward.

Residents of the Driving Park Avenue area addressed the board about sidewalks. Pirelli assured them that the village must have 100 percent participation and/or interest from the residents of a street to install sidewalks. If this is not the case, they won't have to worry about sidewalks being installed there. (Residents had voiced disapproval at a previous board meeting.)
