What you can do to recreate the Rose Capital

The Rose Capital Committee of Newark Inc. has been active in for just over four years. The Committee was established to capitalize on Newark's reputation as the Rose Capital. In doing so, the Rose Committee hopes to increase Newark pride and increase community activities (especially those with ties to the history as Rose Capital). The Rose Committee also hopes to improve Newark's appeal to new business, homeowners, and visitors.

The Rose Committee is striving to replant Newark with Roses. The Rose Committee does not have the resources, nor does it intend to, re-establish large rose gardens like those once planted and maintained by Jackson & Perkins. What the Rose Committee can and will do is provide Newark business and residences with high quality rose bushes.

The Rose Committee is always looking for volunteers for a number of activities. These activities include planting and tending the stock of rose bushes, financial planning, publicity, organizational issues (including not-for-profit requirements) and activity coordination. Most of these activities involve no more than a couple of hours here and there, but are essential to the viability of the organization.

If you are interested in participating in any of these Rose activities, contact Emily Leone at 331-2993. Or attend the next meeting on December 10 at 7 p.m. at the Charter One Bank (formerly RCSB) on Miller St. in the basement community meeting room.
