Happenings Stan and Isabelle Bushart visited her uncle, Ken Blackmer, in Medina last week. Joining them for lunch were Bob Wolfe, a friend; and Jessica Leno, their granddaughter, along with the little girl Jessica cares for. Mr. Blackmer at 102, still enjoyes having company and going out for meals. Bob and Linda Clark of Palmyra Road, and their family, were guests of honor at a dinner party given for them on Saturday evening by Bob's family. The occasion being the couples 25th Wedding Anniversary. The party was held at the Farm Restaurant in Macedon. Everyone enjoyed a great meal and dancing later in the evening. NOVEMBER 27, 1941: Besides the quantity of produce shipped by truck to near and distant places, Station Master Marshall states that 106 carloads were shipped from Marion last week over the Pennsylvania RR. The Afternoon Circle, at the United Church, held their November luncheon meeting at the home of Ruth Haskins on the seventeenth. The Marion community will celebrate Thanksgiving together at a Community Thanksgiving Worship Service at the Second Reformed Church on Wednesday evening, November 25 at 7:30 p.m. At the morning worship service on November 15 at the United Church there was a dedication of a collection of children's books purchased by the Church School for a Children's Library in memory of Marge Jansen. "Lying about your age is easier, now that you sometimes forget what it is!" Like the turkey, Thanksgiving is a relatively young American tradition. It stems from the very ancient harvest feast and has a more immediate connection with the Harvest Home ceremonies of the Pilgrim's England. For the previous four decades the indomitable Sarah Josepha Hale, editor of Godey's Lady's Book, had waged a one-woman campaign for a regular, national holiday. In 1863 her efforts bore fruit, when President Lincoln declared that the last Thursday of November would thereafter be Thanksgiving Day. Have a Thankful Day with your family and friends! The next meeting of the Marion Senior Citizens, will be held on November 24, at the Marion Fire Hall, at noon. We will be planning the annual Holiday Lunch. Please join us, bring a dish to pass and enjoy a delicious lunch and stay and play cards and Dominoes. Our Holiday Lunch and celebration will be held on December 8th, reserve the date. I see that there is a new store opening downtown! Folks at the Come-Unity Center, in Williamson, will be joining with the Williamson First United Methodist Church to have their Thanksgiving Dinner on THANKSGIVING DAY at the church on Main Street. Dinner will be served at noon with a service at 1:00 p.m. This replaces the Thanksgiving Dinner usually held at the center the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Thanks to Rev. Brian Homan and his parishoners for their kindness. (Please send your seasonal gifts of money to the center at 4095 West Main St., Williamson, NY 14589). Peter Kelley has returned home following knee surgery. November 21 - There will be a Youth Event held in the educational building at the Second Reformed Church in celebration of a One Year Anniversary. All grades 7-12 are welcome from 7:30-10 p.m. World AIDS Day is December 1 and a group of Marion students is planning special activities for this day. One of the ways is by making an MCS AIDS Quilt. Students, staff and student groups will make "squares" for the quilt. Supplies will be in room 48 at the Marion Junior-Senior High School, including material for the square. Students may use this room during 10th period to make their square. Squares will be due back by Monday, November 23rd so that there is time to sew them together and hang it in the High School cafeteria by December lst. Congratulations to junior Mark Hussey. Mark finished 5th out of approximately 250 runners on November 7th. Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Cross-Country team. They are the Section 5 Champions in class C/double C and will compete at the state meet in Lake Placid this weekend. These runners are Rebecca Lewis, Crystal Wheeler, Liz Boerman, Kristina Lewis, Makena Mason, Deb Hussey, and Erin Pomerantz. Copyright © 1998 |
