Kristin Caves & familyLions broom sales
help sick girl

Diagnosed with a childhood cancer last June, 11-year-old Kristin Caves of North Rose undergoes radiation treatments every day. She is a student at North Rose-Wolcott Middle School. To this end, she and her mom, Dawn Caves, travel to and from Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester every morning.

This nice young family, residing on Salter Road in North Rose, is having a tough time. If the cancer weren't enough, her dad, Jon Caves, is job-hunting after being laid off from his employment as a forklift driver. And her mom has had to take a temporary leave of absence as a secretary to help with the family. Kristin has a younger sister, Kelley.

Even health insurance is at a minimum. Daily radiation treatments and chemotherapy treatments every three weeks have been an added burden.

Several civic and fraternal organizations have tried to help financially and Camp Good Days has recently given her a few days in Florida and Disney World.

The North Rose Lions Club, in addition to an initial gift of $500, is sponsoring a straw broom sale on Saturday, November 28, the profits to go to the family. All kinds of brooms will be sold at two supermarket locations. Booths will be set up at Loson's Food Market in Lyons and the P&C Market in Newark.

The Lions will be selling from both locations all day or until supplies are gone. The Lions will then have more brooms for sale starting Monday, November 30 at DeAngelis Real Estate office on Main Street in Wolcott.
