Historical societies receive grants

Grants totalling $1255 have been announced by the Wayne County Antique Dealers' Association to support projects of five local historical societies.

The Walworth Historical Society received $250 toward the preservation of a 175-year-old copper beech tree; the Pultneyville Historical Society was awarded $400 to erect a permanent sign at its museum; the Arcadia Historical Society received $150 for paint for its museum; the Lyons Heritage Society will use its $250 grant toward the purchase of a television and VCR, and the Marion Historical Society will complete map restoration with its $205 grant.

These are partnership grants, under the Wayne County Antique Dealers' program, which disperses funds to chartered historical societies in Wayne County to supplement ongoing or new projects. Applications will be available to societies next fall. The Association, founded in 1967, initiated the grant program in 1996 to provide continuous cumulative support for the historical, cultural and creative life of Wayne County.
