trophy winnersThe Newark football team continued its fine season with a 26-6 homecoming win over the Penn Yan Mustangs at Newark.

The Reds went ahead 7-0 when Dwayne Parker scored on a 26-yard run, and Nelson Rivera kicked the extra point.

Josh Herman caught a seven-yard pass from Bryan Hurdle. The extra point attempt by Rivera failed. Newark scored again when Parker scored on a 30-yard run. The Reds attempt at a two point conversion failed. Newarks final score of the half came when Parker scored his third touchdown of the game this time on a 15 yard run. Rivera's extra point gave the Reds a 26-0 edge at the half.

The Mustangs' lone score of the game came in the final period when Mike Mullins scored on a five yard run.

The Reds put a lot of pressure on the Mustang offense as Duane Garner, Corey Stirpe, Rivera and Scott each had quarterback sacks.

Offensively, the Reds were led by Dwayne Parker's 177 yards rushing on 17 carries and three touchdowns. Nelson Rivera in his first varsity game of the year had 52 yards on six carries. Jon Kelly had 25 yards rushing on four carries. Shawn Orlopp had 15 yards rushing on three carries.

Corey Stirpe had two catches for 42 yards. Herman had three catches for 27 yards and one touchdown. Rivera had one catch for 13 yards. Eric Decker had one catch for five yards.

Bryan Hurdle was seven of 13 in the game for 87 yards passing with one touchdown pass and one interception.

Brad DeVelder had eight tackles in his first varsity start. Rivera had five tackles, two hurries, one forced fumble and one sack. Scott had five tackles, one recovered fumble, one sack.

Newark tallied 356 yards of total offense while limiting a potent Mustang rushing attack to just 97 yards on the ground.

Newark will travel to Geneva tomorrow night where they take on the 0-4 Panthers.

Geneva lost a 49-0 decision to the Victor Blue Devils last week.

Last Friday was homecomming night with nearly two thousand people on hand for the Reds win. Homecomming king and queen were Reds football player Jess Kidder and Teresa Zappia.
