Visit Newark, England on the Web
By Donna Comella

Not long after the Courier-Gazette made Newark, NY a world-wide presence on the Internet, we received e-mail from the Newark Advertiser in England. Harry Whitehouse had found the C-G's online work and provided a link to it from his site's feature, Newarks of the World.

At the Advertiser, Whitehouse is the Deputy Editor, Production Editor and Webmaster. He tells us, "Newark has a population of about 25,000, but it has sprawled into several other villages (which still have their own identities and parish councils)..."

The Advertiser links to a local government site, which not only fills you in on the goings-on, but allows you to tour the Town Hall. The tour includes views of the ballroom, the Council Chamber and the Mayor's Parlour.

This week, the Advertiser news index included such stories as the paper's recent visit from Mayor Doreen Westmoreland, a local garden "full of scrap" that continues to win the Town Council's annual garden competition, and the possibility of turning the Town Hall into a museum.

Other features of the site include many of the same that appear on the C-G site - history, a photo gallery, advertising, etc. As a matter of fact, our own Events button now features a "Preview" option that Harry was kind enough to let us borrow.
