Arcadia Town Board briefs
By John Zornow

Several Marbletown residents were at the Town Board meeting Tuesday night to voice concerns about a proposed housing tract planned for the former Beckens Park property on Miller Road.

Len Shulla asked why a letter was not sent to residents about events dealing with the Beckens Park issue. He was informed by Councilman Gary Grant and Supervisor Dom Bartucca that a Planning Board meeting is scheduled for November 30, and comments will be welcomed then. Bartucca added that the Planning Board deals with the issue, followed by the Zoning Board. The project then goes back to the Town Board for a vote.

The board was informed that bids for the Southwest Benefit #2 water line for Granger Lane and Clark Road are over by an average of $20,000. This, plus the fact that there were only three bidders, led the board to reject all bids and to authorize the Supervisor to contract with the Wayne County Water Authority, who has offered to do the job for $39,000.

Marbletown water line: The discussion was heated when the proposed Marbletown Fire Department water line was brought up. Grant asked about progress in the matter, and appeared upset when Bartucca did not directly answer his question. Town Attorney David Saracino questioned Bartucca about how the water line can begin before water districts are formed. Bartucca said angrily that it was taken care of, and Saracino need not worry about it. Bartucca insisted that he had done his homework on the matter, and was assured by the Dept. of Health that, under emergency conditions, the districts may be formed as the project is being done. Marbletown Fire Department water has been declared unsafe to drink.

Other town business:

The board agreed to allow the village to annex property on Stuart Ave. into the village.

Agreed that an additional budget workshop is not needed. A public hearing on the budget, expected to decrease, is scheduled for October 22.

Welcomed new Fairville Fire Department member James Wallis of 12 Garfield St. Newark.

Was informed by Bartucca that he had obtained approval by the DEC to drain ditches along the south end of Budd Road. Residents have long complained about the situation, calling it a health hazard. Bartucca indicated that easements need to obtained before trenching can begin.
