Sodus
Primary School:
Working Together
By Melissa White
I went to the Sodus Primary School to the Open House and Book Fair. It was so nice to
watch as everyone worked together for one goal - the children.
Jill Langren and Tina Bramhall spent the evening serving punch and
cookies to passersby. Children don't need a major hunger or thirst ... punch and cookies
are good all the time.
Mr. Burns, the Intermediate School's new principal, cooked hot dogs while others helped
to pass them out. Parents and students enjoyed their dinners out on the school's front
yard. Afterward, there was the talk about the Community Center by Mrs. Miner then on to
the Book Fair.
Parents were excitedly pulled by their children into
classrooms, the library and art room. The teachers (who must have slept well that night)
spent plenty of time with each student and his/her parents, talking about goals for the
future.
It was nice to see where the children spend their days
and get to know the teacher better. While wandering from place to place (I slept well
myself that night), I snapped photos of the artwork the students had worked on. It's nice
to see bright colorful pictures on the walls.
Many teachers have a storybook theme they work with, such as the Rainbow Fish and the
Chocolate Cake. The Kindergarten students had been learning about cave art and had made a
cave of their own, using great imaginations to decorate it.
Watching the children proudly show their parents what they had
been doing, makes you realize - working together sure pays off.
