Antique Truck Club to display toys, models

The newly-formed Finger Lakes Chapter of the Antique Truck Club of America hosted a successful antique truck show July 25. Over a dozen antique trucks, in various stages of restoration, were at the show. With the arrival of harsher weather, however, the Club has decided to leave the full-size antique trucks parked in the barn.

Since it is not necessary to own a full-size antique truck to be a member of the Club, and since many members collect die-cast truck models, the November meeting will feature a truck show of truck toys and collectibles. Members will bring one piece from their collection and will make a presentation to the group, explaining why it is a special part of their collection.

The meeting will be held Saturday, November 7 at 1 p.m. in Lyons. The meeting will be held at the Bridge Tavern, located on Route 14 at the Erie Canal. A lunch (Dutch treat) will be available during the meeting. Anyone who has an interest in old trucks is welcome at the meeting and is encouraged to join.

Future plans include at "Mystery Trip" where members will board a bus without knowing their destination - only that they will travel to an old truck graveyard. Also, more full-size antique truck shows are planned for 1999.

Meetings always provide the opportunity to reminisce about truck experiences of yesteryear. The Finger Lakes Chapter of the Antique Truck Club of America now has over 25 members. For more information call 946-5006.
