Gem & mineral show in Newark The 5th annual "Crystal Wonders" Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show will be presented by the Wayne County Gem & Mineral Club on Saturday, September 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Firemen's Park, Westshore Boulevard, Newark. Admission will be $1 donation with children under 12 free. The show will feature minerals, fossils, jewelry, exhibits, demonstrations and door prizes. The show will be held indoors. The Newark Fire Department will sponsor a chicken barbecue on Saturday, September 19. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Wayne County Gem & Mineral Club. The club's objective is to stimulate interest in Mother Earth and her hidden treasures by collecting and classifying minerals and fossils. The club is an educational and recreational club. The public is welcome to attend meetings held the second Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark. Officers of the club are: David Kords, president; Joyce McElwee, vice president; Darryl Powell, secretary; Carol Frey, treasurer; Ken Rowe and Mike Frey, gem show chairmen.
