"Spirits" auditions on Sept. 27 Auditions for public readings of the dramatic ballad, Spirits of Butternut Street, will be held at the Wayne County Historical Society, 21 Butternut Street, Lyons, at 1 p.m. on September 27. The play, written by T.J. Spencer, is about four historical people associated with the former Wayne County Jail. The dramatic ballad will be presented on October 22-24 to small audiences who will be seated in the old cell block of what was once the Wayne County Jail, and is now the Museum. The people who will be featured in the play are Jeremiah Collins, a man who served Wayne County as either sheriff or undersheriff for 49 years, his most famous capture, the notorious train robber Oliver Curtis Perry, Georgia Sampson, a women held in the jail during her 1909 trial for the murder of her husband, and William Fee, the only person ever executed in Wayne County.
