The Newark High swim team improved to 2-0 with a 68-24 win over the North-Rose Wolcott Cougars on September 17. Shannon Lewis (pictured) continues to break Newark swim records. Shannon set a new record in the 500 freestyle event with a time of 5:36.60. She also won the 50 freestyle (:25.87) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team with Kristin VanOoyen, Allison Wahl and Kelly Leeuwen (2:13.3). Sarah Lewis won the 200 freestyle (2:06.25), Wahl won the 200 individual medley (2:30.4) and Colleen Boyd won the 100 butterfly in 1:13.75. Emily Williams won the 100 free (1:02.55), VanOoyen won the 100 backstroke event. The team of Williams, VanOoyen, Casey Powell and Wahl placed first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:58.41). Second place finishes: 200 medley relay team of Martha Clark, Jody Flannery, Boyd, Meghan Dash; Williams in the 200 free; Flannery in the 50 free; Dash in the one meter diving event; Powell in the 100 fly; Dash in the 100 free; Leeuwen in the 500 free; 200 freestyle team of Sarah Lewis, Clark, Boyd and Leeuwen. Clark was second in the 100 backstroke. Newark improved to 3-0 with a 107-79 win aver the Red Raiders on September 19 at Hornell. Shannon Lewis broke her own record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.05. The record was also a Hornell school pool record. She also won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.12 and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay with Wahl, Williams and Dash in (4:07.03). She swam on the winning 200 medley relay team of Sarah Lewis, Dash and Boyd (2:05.39). Wahl won the 200 freestyle event (2:08.50). She won the 100 freestyle (:59.01) and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team with Sarah Lewis, Boyd and Williams (1:53.49). Sarah Lewis won the 50 free (:26.12) and Williams won the 500 free in 6:22.04. Sarah Lewis won the 100 breaststroke (1:12.81). Copyright © 1998 |
