Book Character Day at Perkins School
March 22-26 was "Reading is Out of
This World Week" at perkins School. Sponsored by the Perkins PTA, it was a week long
celebration of reading and books. Highlights of the week included the presentation of new
hard cover book gifts to the Media Center and every classroom, spectacular mural size
posters created by Friends of Perkins decorating the halls, Book Character Day, a solar
"system" keeping track of the 1,261 books read by eager students that week, and
a permanent memento for every child in Perkins and the kindergarten clases at Roosevelt.
The PTA gave every child their own personal brand new book to read again and again.
"The children were over-joyed with their books. They couldn't wait to put their names
in the book plates. What a wonderful lasting gift!" Second grade teacher, Mrs. Anne
Dinan.
