Newark takes
Sodus tennis team

The Newark varsity tennis team picked up a 4-1 win over the Sodus Spartans on Saturday.

Newark (2-0) won at first singles as Jon deWit defeated Brian LeRoy 6-0, 6-3. Alexis Sigg won at second singles 6-4, 7-5 over Simon Hawley. Brian Franchi dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Chris Zeger.

In first doubles, Chris Rommel and Travis Martin defeated Sean Sill and George Steffler 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Russell VanTyle and Sean Salber defeated Dave Ferguson and Dave Steffover 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker, lost 6-7 (7-2) tie breaker in the second set and won the third set 6-4.
