Missing Sodus

dogHasn't the weather been great? It's so nice to see all the pretty spring flowers and the sun shining on them.

Our patients, Blanche and Sarah, are recovering from their trip to Lyons Veterinary Clinic last week. I've had to confine Sarah a bit because she won't stop leaping straight up into the air everytime someone walks past her. (Who can expect a 6 month old boxer puppy to take it easy?)

The Sodus Garden Club and Master Gardeners from Sodus and getting together with the Sodus Free Library to offer a program to celebrate Arbor Day. (I just happen to be planting a Flowering Almond bush today, unfortunately I know nothing about it.)

Families and children from first grade and up are invited to visit the Library at 10:30 Saturday, May 1. Attendees will be potting free tree seedlings to take home and will learn how to plant and care for their trees as they grow. Also, a flowering Crab Apple Tree will be planted at the library in the memory of Norris VanDuser. Carol Garland invites everyone to come learn and plant.

Did you ever hear about Sodus being the birthplace of Arbor Day? Click here.

The controversy about Myers Community Hospital continues. There is a special website you can connect to for the details of meeting places, dates and times. For more information, click www.savemyershospital.org

The Sodus Pre-K plans to have their pot luck dinner at 5 p.m. The entertainment for the event will be the Dinner Dogs. The Dinner Dogs have played at many other events in Wayne County - we saw them not long ago at the Williamson Library.

Also tonight is the Sodus Rotary Club Chicken Barbecue. Head to the Sodus High cafeteria for the fun.

Don't forget there will be a Dance Party at the Sodus American Legion on Maple Ave. Saturday, May 1 from 9 to midnight. The Williamson Apple Blossom Festival should be coming up in May as well. I'll get more information to pass on to you.

Alice Clark has been busy. Not only does she have a new job as a substitute teacher at Sodus School but she's involved with a Childcare Referral service in the area as well. The service is in the planning stages. It will help to match up the baby-sitter to the parents with specific needs. daffodilsBaby-sitters ranging in age from 12-15 will be trained in CPR be qualified and reliable. So far, response has been positive. Alice says there are many more details to be ironed out. She'll keep me posted.

Local towns are having their CROP Walks this weekend. Newark's is tomorrow, and on Sunday, Sodus walkers can meet at the Church of the Epiphany at 1:30. In Williamson, meet at the First Presbyterian Church, also at 1:30.

Rebecca Clark's birthday was last week and, since there was no school, she was able to have a sleepover party on Wednesday at the cottage. They fished (Get any big ones?), played squirt-gun tag, watched the movie, Mighty Joe Young and even set up a tent on the porch.

Sounds like people have been really busy and this is just the beginning of the season. Our first picnic/party is this weekend and the weather promises (so far) to be sunny with temperatures in the 70's.

Enjoy your week, thanks to everyone who has kept me updated on the events of their lives. Don't forget to write and tell me about your events, and special days

After spelling cooke that way for so long I'm going to forget how to really spell it. Speaking of cookies, if you have a great cookie recipe to share send it along.
