Run the Annual Marion Mile The fourth annual Marion Mile will be run at 10 a.m. on Sat., August 28. This race will kick off the Marion Heritage Days festivities; the race will start at the Marion Town Park. The course will run along the perimeter of the cemetery and end at the same place it started at the town park. The course has changed this year due to the fact that ALL Heritage Days events will be taking place at the town park. As always, everyone is welcome to run. There are categories for juniors (ages 11 and under), scholastic boys and girls (ages 12 to 18), adult men and women (ages 19 to 39), and masters (ages 40 and above). A fee of $21 will be charged for individuals, with a maximum of $5 for a family of three or more. Entrants are also required to bring a canned good on the day of the race. All money and canned goods will he given to the Marion Food Pantry. Because this year's course in new, a first best-time record will be set for the course, as well. The record for the old course is held by Mark Hussey of Marion at 5 minutes, 15 seconds. The overall winner of the race will receive a trophy; winners in each category will receive a Marion canvas bag. Second-place in each category will get Marion cups. The top three runners in each category will receive ribbons. All participants will receive an official Marion Mile completion certificate.
