Missing Sodus

rainbow.jpg (15694 bytes)This week's weather has been really nice, hasn't it? I got my cast off last Tuesday. I told my kids and niece that they would either here a loud 'YES' as I came out, or whimpering. Fortunately, it was the first one.

Have you seen Ruth Lennox lately at the Kraft Shack? She works there now and loves it. Just think of the ideas for Scouts she can come up with.

There will be a Dog Show at Sodus Point this weekend. The agility portion of the show will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the obedience competition at 10. A chicken BBQ will be going on at noon, so you can have lunch after watching the dogs do a great job.

daisies.jpg (19071 bytes)Claire and Graham Dickson were coming from Wolcott and saw the fire at the Church the other night . Graham said he saw three fire companies on the scene, but was told five were called. I am always amazed at how frightening watching a fire can be - it's too interesting not to watch yet scary. While in Sodus, we watched the fire company burn what was left of Janet's Ceramics place. From time to time, firemen practice on designated buildings. (I know there's a term for it - one reason why I can't be a fireperson, fear is another.) When we drove past it, I was surprised that, even though it was far from the road, the heat from the flames was so intense. Many emotions and thoughts run through your head as you watch in awe.

The Hooper children, now living in Florida, have already begun school for the year. (This year, they had a short summer vacation. Next year, things will work in their favor.) They all seem to like school so far, but no one is ever ready for those early mornings and, of course, Homework! (I'm not looking forward to getting up and standing out by the road before sun comes up myself. A special light should go on just as the alarm clock goes off, and a tape of birds singing happily couldn't hurt.)

Melanie Pike has a new job as Teaching Assistant in the Primary School Library. Congratulations! Speaking of the Pike's , they will be having their annual garage sale this weekend. Melanie tells me this one is huge, so if you're in the neighborhood, stop in and see what treasures you can find.

Even though the Summer Reading Programs are finished for the year don't forget to keep reading. We have some great ones to try:

It's Not Fair by Anita Harper
Three Star Billy by Pat Hutchins
Where Are the Night Animals by Mary Ann Fraser
Grandma Gets Grumpy by Anna Grossnickle Hines
Barnyard Animals by Frank Asch
Apples and Pumpkins by Anne Rockwell
Marmalade's Snowy Day and Marmalades's Yellow Leaf by Cindy Wheeler
and
If You Were My Bunny by Kate McMullan

sky.jpg (5353 bytes)My dogs are in bed, so everything is finally quiet around here. I got them those pig ears, which they love to eat and fight about. The growling, snarling and stealing that goes on between dogs is unreal! And they both get an ear of their own! (Must be good! )

Remember, anything that's been going on in your life that you'd like to share, please write to me

mgoodcooke@aol.com

Send me your children's favorite bedtime story title and author we'll share book ideas. And please send events that you think others will enjoy. Have a great week.

Editor's note: It's called a controlled burn...and please don't try the pig ears!
