More arts money available

Attn: Wayne County artists and not-for-profits: Wayne County Council for the Arts is pleased to announce that the New York State Council on the Arts has awarded an additional $2000 to their local 2000 Decentralization Regrant Program bringing the amount they have to re-distribute to $22,000.

The Arts Council will redistribute the funds to Wayne County non-profit organizations planning community arts and cultural programs next year.

All Wayne County not-for-profit organizations (including churches, PTA's, museums, historical societies, recreation departments, libraries, etc.), as well as units of local government (towns and villages), may apply for Decentralization funding to supplement proposed community arts projects. Individual artists are also eligible for Decentralization funding through the sponsorship of a qualified organization. Programs must take place in Wayne County between January 1 and December 31, 2000. Funding requests of up to $5000 may be submitted.

Attendance by an organizational representative is required at one of the remaining Decentralization Grant Seminars in order to apply for 2000 funding. Applications will only be available at these workshops which last approximately one hour.

Saturday, Sept. 4, Clyde-Savannah Library - 10 a.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 8, Palmyra Kings Daughters Library - 7 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 18, Sodus Free Library - 10 a.m.

Re-granting decisions are made by a volunteer panel of community members with an interest in the arts.

Quality programs with clearly defined community benefits are given highest priority. Other funding priorities include projects from first-time applicants, new initiatives from past applicants, and the extent to which the project is supported by other non-Decentralization resources. Additionally, programs in under-served artistic disciplines or for under-served audiences and projects that include/support collaborations with other non-profits will also be given additional consideration.

Decentralization applications must be hand-delivered by 5 p.m. or postmarked by midnight on Friday, October 22. Call Heidi Santelli at 946.5078 for more information.
