Bigger fines for speeding in school zones Effective immediately, new state guidelines will increase the fines for speeding in school zones. In Newark, the posted speed limit in front of schools is 15 MPH. If you are caught going 1-9 MPH over 15 MPH, your fine will be between $60 and $200. If you are going 10-30 MPH over the limit, the fine will be between $120 and $400. Going 31 or more MPH over the school zone speed limit will get you a ticket costing $240 to $800. Copyright © 1999 |
