Missing Sodus Well, another week has gone by and we are much closer to the big day. I went back and forth in my mind - real tree or artificial? By the time I was done putting the artificial one up, I almost wished I'd gotten the real one. There are pros and cons to each. The real smell of pine, looks great, but the needles fall off and I forget to water or the cat drinks the water. With the artificial, there is no pine smell, and it takes forever to put up. (This year, I decided to get a huge Blue Spruce. I had it almost put together, when it dawned on me it looked really odd. The printed directions didn't go with the directions on the tree branches! What a surprise! Real would have been easier for this year!) The Williamson Library is doing Food for Fines this month. One item of non-perishable food for $l of fines. This, of course, does not work for delinquency or replacement of books or library materials. Already they have taken a full grocery cart of food over to the Come-Unity Center. Great job and a fantastic idea! There is a Y2K contest with a Y2K compliant gift pack for all adult patrons. Sounds interesting ? Happy Belated Birthday to Donny Pike who turned (?) on December 6. (Oh my, looking at the calendar is scary this time of year.) We were out driving through Wayne County the other day and spotted Santa with his sleigh at the Corner Market. There were sleigh rides with Santa. Unfortunately, when we arrived, it was raining. (Poor Santa, and where were the reindeer? They haven't been replaced by the tractor have they?! )
Eileen Hooper let me know how happy she is to have a palm tree in her backyard. (I have a couple in the dining room myself, I just love.) Eileen's grow huge and outside (that's what she gets for living in Florida.) She was able to visit with her nephew, George, when the Senior class went to Florida. (Can you imagine what Disney looks like this time of year?! ) Tonight (Fri., Dec. l0), the Sodus PTSA is sponsoring a Christmas Concert in the Primary School cafeteria. Just the thing to get everyone in the holiday mood. December ll, there will be an Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration downtown in Wolcott beginning at noon. On December 12, (Sunday), there will be a Pancake Breakfast at the Wallington Fire Department on Old Ridge Rd. in Sodus, 7-ll a.m. Bring your appetites. The Sodus Jr./Sr. High concert is Monday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The winners of the Craft Carnival Drawings were: Pam Arend, Nancy Barnes, Jack Countryman, Michelle DeRidder, Leone Leggue, and Alice Weaver.
Don't forget the Williamson Library Christmas Crafts Program every Saturday through December the 21 from l0 a.m. to 8 p.m. You and your children can enjoy Holiday music as you make special keepsakes. Speaking of the library we, of course, have been reading and have found some books we think you'd like to read with your children. Looking for a fun way to spend a chilly afternoon (other then reading, of course), try www.gamesdomain.com and www.kidsdomain.com has some great coloring pages. If you and your children have found a cool web page for the holidays, please let me know. It's fun to share - especially this time of year. In the l840s, German immigrants introduce the first Christmas tree, if not for them what would we be decorating this time of year? Do you have old or new traditions you'd like to share? Please write to me at Have a great week. Remember, after the tree is up and decorated, take the time to sit down and enjoy it. This time of year can become hectic! Now, where did I put the wrapping paper? Copyright © 1999 |
