The program for November 4 was Kathy McGonigal of Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County. She explained the variety of services that Literacy Volunteers provides to adults in the county. McGonigal explained that there are an estimated 28,000 adults in Wayne County who are cannot read well enough to successfully function in their everyday activities.

On November 11, Hannelora Reinhardt, Newark Rotary's Foundation Chair, updated members about the Rotary International Foundation and its function. The foundation is supported by voluntary contributions from not only Rotarians, but others as well. Gifts are invested for three years, after which 100% of the contribution is put into programs such as hospitals, schools, and more.

District 7120's goal this year is $130,000, or $45 per Rotarian.

Notable fines for the month of November: John Tickner paid $10 for a business/pleasure trip to game three of the World Series. Charlie Hallagan paid $20 for a trip around Lake Ontario (by car) and claimed that he became a member of the Chamber of Commerce on Prince Edward Island.

Congratulations and thank you to the following Newark Rotary members:

Bob Nary - Appointed Assistant Governor to Governor Jack Best for the year 2000-2001.

Beth and Gerry Palmer, who donated a Jacuzzi Get-Away Package at the Newark Quality Inn that was auctioned to Sherri Muniz, with the proceeds going to Polio Plus.

Al Muniz, who coordinated Rotary Club Bell Ringing efforts for the Salvation Army during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Newark Rotary Club meets every Thursday at 12:05 p.m. at Burnham's Canalside Restaurant at the Newark Quality Inn.
