The language department at the high school thanks you all for supporting the fund-raiser. The money will support students who are travelling to Canada, France, Spain and Germany.

December 25: 'Cherish now your loved ones dear, for Christmas comes but once a year.'

Vivian Voorhees hosted the United Church Women's Circle Luncheon at her home, on Dec. 21.

Gene and Nancy Smith of Maple Ridge Road entertained family on Dec. 18, celebrating the Christmas season by getting together for gifts and eats.

The Christmas Eve Service at the Second Reformed Church will be held on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. with Jim and Pam Wolfanger in charge of the service.

The Bell Choir (Second Reformed Church) under the direction of Janette Nevelezer presented the Ministry of Music at the Dec. 18 service. Kyle Haak and the Senior Choir also presented music.

DECEMBER 27, 1913: The Christmas Cantata at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening was attended by an audience which filled the auditorium Sunday School room and extended into the primary department.

Makayla Marie, daughter of Dan and Heidi Jensen, was welcomed at the United Church by receiving Infant Baptism.

The lovely Christmas tree and wreath gracing the sanctuary at the United Church are gifts from the Franke family. They have provided wreaths for many years. The beautiful angel on top of the tree was created and given by Hilda De Lue.

Christmas Eve service at the United Church will be held at 6 p.m.

From Statesmen's Dishes, 1890: 'To prepare a turkey for Christmas dinner, the turkey should be cooped up and fed well, some time before Christmas. Three days before it is slaughtered, it should have an English walnut forced down its throat, three times a day, and a glass of sherry once a day. The meat will be deliciously tender and have a fine nutty flavor.'

Food drive...this year it ran from Dec. 6-17. The goal was to donate 1150 items to Marion Food Pantry.

Sports - The 8th grade girls defeated Gananda on Dec. 10 by the score of 23-4. Christina DeFisher led with 12 points, and Suzanna DeFisher added nine. The team lost to Clyde-Savannah on Dec. 15; on Dec. 13 the girls defeated Clyde-Savannah 40-29. Danielle DeLyser led with 16 points, C. DeFisher scored 10 and S. DeFisher scored five. The 7th grade girls (7 and 0) defeated Gananda 41-21.

The varsity boys won their first game 72-64 over Red Creek. Ten players scored, with Steve Schutt pouring in 29 points. The JV boys beat Red Creek 54-51.

Congratulations to the Marion JV Masterminds who won against Lyons; the varsity team posted a victory over Wayne Central.
