Newark Raptors will host league all-star game

The Newark Raptors of the Northesastern Collegiate Baseball League (NCBL) have received their schedule for the 1999 season. The Raptors open the regular season on Friday, June 11 and will play their regular season home opener on June 13. This is an event of Newarkfest.

baseball playerThe Raptors will host 18 games at Colburn Park this season, including one non-league game prior to beginning the regular season.

The 40-game regular season will conclude at home on Saturday, July 24 against the Geneva Knights. The top two teams in each division advance to the playoffs, starting on July 27.

The Knights will visit Colburn Park four times this season, as the two teams renew the Talomie Cup rivalry, estished last season and won by the Raptors.

In another major announcement, the Raptors where awarded the 1999 NCBL All-star game, scheduled for Monday, June 5. This showcase of the league's top players has always been an event that Major League scouts attend.

Last season the game was televised on the Empire Sports Network. Before this year, the Hornell Dodgers have hosted the past three All-star games.
