Freshman basketball The Newark Freshman boys picked up a 79-61 win over the Honeoye Falls Lima Cougars on February 12 at Honeoye Falls-Lima. Newark took the early 20-14 first period lead and held a 41-30 lead at halftime. The Cougars came back to trail 58-50 after three periods. Newark point guard Tim Brinkman scored 10 of his 14 points in the final period for the win. Josh Whyte had 23 points and seven rebounds; Tom VanHalle adding 15, Michael Jinks chipped in with 10, Marques Smith added eight and Dan Behlau added seven. The 14-2 Reds were 16 of 18 from the foul line. Newark lost 51-42 to the Blue Devils on Tuesday at Victor. Newark trailed 15-13 after one period and led 28-23 at halftime. Victor led 33-32 going into the final quarter. Whyte scored 11 points and had eight rebounds, Behlau and VanHalle scored nine each. Newark was 11 of 13 from the foul line. Newark Freshmen will host Harley-Allendale-Columbia on Feb. 19 at 3:30 p.m. and will play the Canandaigua Braves on February 20 at 10 a.m. at the Newark High School.
