Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

What a busy week we've had! The weather has been so nice (off and on). Things, such as bicycle pumps and skateboards you didn't think you'd need to get out of the garage so soon, were suddenly in desperate demand. The kids couldn't wait to get out of school. (Who can blame them? I myself sat on the porch and tried to absorb all the warmth I could. It's much easier going for a walk when you aren't fighting the elements.)

Last week, along with the beautiful weather, I had a scary thing happen. I lost my wallet. I was in a hurry and, just for a second, placed it on the back of the car. (The little voice in my head said, "Don't do it!" I should have listened.) Without thinking twice, we headed to our appointment. Fortunately for me, a kind gentlemen saw it fall from my car and took it to the police station. I was crazed for a while, but I learned an important lesson. While you have your wallet, make copies of the cards you carry in it. If you can't make copies, then write down the things it contains. While you have it with you it's easy to remember what's in it, but when you are in a panic, you can't remember clearly.

On a sad note, I'd like to send condolences to the family of Chris Giannetto who passed away on St. Valentine's Day. There were many articles about the brave little twelve-year-old who received the heart and lung transplants. His Grandmother had encouraged him to try things and he always did his best. I didn't know him well, but he always seemed to have a good outlook on life. At baseball games and Scout meetings, he was just like every other kid and was treated the same. The funeral was this morning at the Church of The Epiphany in Sodus. If you'd like to send a Memorial contribution, you can mail it to:

We saw the Hooper family the other day. (Have you seen the Scouts at your door?) I was informed that their niece, Julie Steffler, has been promoted at the Super Duper to the Service desk. I wonder how many people will suddenly need to visit the Service Desk? Congratulations, Julie.

The field trip to the Eastman House sounded successful. The students enjoyed the displays as well as the hands-on exhibits. After their trip to the Eastman Theater, the fourth graders enjoyed lunch under the Golden Arches. (I was told there was a lot of yawning and fidgiting. Maybe there's a certain age group that likes classical music or maybe it was just the kids I talked to. A nice way to ease your children into it is to take your blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts at Sodus Point during the summer. All children like to be outside and popcorn is always a plus.)

The 100th day will be coming up next week in Sodus Schools. Many children have been working on their projects for the big day. It's fun to think up what 100 things you want to use. In years past, I have seen some imaginative ideas. Along with doing the projects, many other activities are planned. Have fun!
