By Carolyn Adriaansen (926-4436) JULY 5, 1945: Boos and jeers broke up a public meeting at Marion last Friday to discuss the future of the Branch Prisoner of War Camp being erected here. Happy Birthday to Chris Christianson on July 1. "Love is never wasted!" On July 10 there will be an opening of a farmer's market on the site of Henry and Darla Kuperus's Meat Packing establishment off Mill St., Marion. It will be held on that date and future Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafts, baked goods, jams and jellies, and wood products will be available plus the fresh produce. Give a call to 926-5536 to reserve your space and if anyone wants to sell on a commission basis, arrangements will be made. The girls junior varsity and varsity basketball teams will be holding their second bottle and can collection on July 10. Drop your contributions off at the Marion Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In honor of Marion Town Clerk Jody Bender's birthday, town employees surprised her with a noon-hour picnic at the Town Park. Hot dogs, delicious salads and an assortment of desserts, along with a birthday cake, were consumed and enjoyed. Rod and Helen Adriaansen and Irene Klaeysen attended the NASCAR races in the Pocono Mountains in PA during the weekend of June 19. These Pocono 500 Races were held at Long Pond, PA. Doris Coisman is recovering at her home from her injuries after falling. Bob and Lori Estochen and family are home in the area and will be here for six weeks spending time with family and friends. Nathan DePoint presented the Ministry of Music at the Second Reformed Church on June 27. He sang his latest composition, "To Forgive," and accompanied himself on the guitar. Ike and Nan DeWispelaere accompanied by Nellie DeWispelaere, have returned from a trip to Manasses, Virginia, where they attended the graduation of grandson Nathan, son of Tom and Kathy DeWispeleare. He graduated with a class of 450 from the Osborne Park Senior High School. Also attending were Laura and Rick Aeronberg and boys, and Jeff and Wendy DeWispelaere and girls. TJ then traveled to Chapel Hill, NC Carolina to visit Earl and Shirley DeWispelaere in their new, beautiful home in the Governor's Club with its mountainous winding roads. For Rebecca's graduation from Marion High School, Darrel and Robin Lewis entertained Rebecca's Aunt Cathy and Uncle Rick Lewis and Grandma Martha Lewis who were visiting from Florida. Joey T. and the Bubble Gum Machine will entertain in concert at Marion Ambulance Band Aid 99 on July 10. Concert begins at 8 p.m. with DJ music from 5-8 p.m. in the Town Park.
