Missing Sodus
This week, we went to play miniature golf. It was great fun. (I am amazed at the parents who spend much of the time yelling at their children for not hurrying up or hitting the ball to many times. This is supposed to be fun, I think.) The miniature course in Williamson is nice and don't forget about the one at Sodus Point! It's a nice way to get everyone out of the house for a little while. (Remember to put on your sunscreen.) Speaking of warm weather, the Hooper family arrived at their new home in Florida the Monday after Father's Day. It seems they had a bit of moving van trouble on the way. (Eileen's a good one for unpacking - she helped me as a matter of fact. Good thing, too, or I'd still be living out of boxes piled to the ceiling in the garage!) She said she stayed up until 4 a.m. to get the kitchen settled. (Ah ha! This is her secret - patience and endurance. By 8 p.m., I'd call it a day, then wonder where the sheets were for the beds.) The Hooper kids have made new friends already. Susie has one right next door. The
family had fun with the people at the hotel they stayed at in South Carolina. (They had
never seen white hot dogs. The other day, I was a little rushed and spotted my cat helping himself to breakfast. Do you think he's trying to tell me something? I saw a familiar face in one of the town papers - Al Dobbin (my neighbor from Sodus). He's quite a popular and busy guy. Good thing many of his fans are smaller and can't drive - can you imagine how busy Sergeant Street would have been? I was e-mailed a list of unusual ways to use Bounce fabric softener sheets. Tie a sheet on your belt loop to repel mosquitos. (Sounds funny but at this point I may try anything. If you try it and it works, e-mail me or if you have any other ideas let me know. Have you registered for the Summer Reading Programs at the Libraries? They sound like fun and we've always enjoyed participating. It's amazing how many books a child wants to read at one sitting if they are trying to get a prize. We read a lot, but WOW. Sodus Story Times are Mondays at 10:30 with Helen Combes. No registration is necessary. Just go in, pull up a mat and relax. Williamson Story Times are on Tuesdays at 10:30 from July 13 through August 3 for children ages 4 and up. Younger children are invited but must be accompanied by an adult. Here are some story ideas to try whether you're in a reading program or just reading for the fun of it. Enjoy your week (and your children). I've got to go check on our puppy, Sarah. (Dogs are just like kids - when they are too quiet, it usually means trouble.) Also, if you happen to be at the Country Pets and More store, ask Betty when fish slow down having little ones. Suddenly, I have a tank of about 20 little mollies swimming around. It was another beautiful week with just enough rain to help out
and let me get some inside things accomplished. Summer vacation is here and, so far, it
isn't as traumatic as I had thought it would be. (Nor is it quiet anymore.)
Also, I guess in Florida, they don't have
Heluva Good Cheese dip either. This will be a necessity for her Mom to bring back with her
when she returns in the fall. If you see someone driving a car loaded up with dips and hot
dogs, wave - it'll probably be Betty.
Also don't forget to take a peek at the Kids Corner here on the
website. There are always fun things like word searches and crosswords to keep your kids
busy while you get some things done around the house.
