St. Michael's honors school volunteers

smvol.jpg (9272 bytes)St. Michael School in Newark recently awarded three community volunteers with plaques. Those awarded include Cheryl DeMeyers, Don Viola and Lillian Schaffer.

DeMeyers resides in Newark with her husband of 30 years, Richard. She has three grandchildren attending the school. She volunteers every day in the school office, and also helps the classroom teachers when needed. She recently organized all of the costumes for the school play "The Pied Piper."

Lillian Schaffer has volunteered once a week in the school lunch room for the past five years. A resident of Newark for 47 years, she and her husband, John, have one daughter and one granddaughter. She is member of St. Michael's Church, and belongs to a sewing club that meets at the Community Center once a week. They sew items for eight counties.

Don Viola has volunteered by monitoring the playground during the lunch recess for the past two years. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have been married for 37 years. He served in the Army Infantry from 1949-1953 during the Korean conflict. He is a retired custodian of Lyons Central School. He is a resident of Newark and a member of St. Michael's Church.
