Craig Award Presented
A Tuesday noon meeting was held by the Board of Directors of the Greater Newark Chamber
of Commerce at Burnham's Canalside Restaurant. Brent Mason, son of Addison and Diane Mason
of Newark, was honored with the presentation of the annual Chuck Craig Award. Mason, a
1999 Newark High school graduate will be attending the University of Buffalo this fall,
and is working this summer at Tenneco, and Geneva On The Lake. (Brent is pictured here

The Chuck Craig award was established as a memorial to Craig, by his fellow
employees at Newark DDSO and ARC. Craig was active in the Newark Chamber of Commerce and
President-elect at the time of his sudden death.
In other Chamber business:
Jennifer Habecker of WCTA was on hand to explain that the Greater Newark Chamber is
now an recognized employer group, thus enabling members to qualify for WCTA benefits of
membership.
Chamber Vice President David Doebler indicated that he had received a quote from
Andy Miller of Miller Signs in the amount of $610 to add more space to the existing
village welcome signs. This added space is necessary as other groups seek to have plaques
attached.

with a fiber optics company to install cable along the canal path, the proposed
informational center is on hold.
Chamber Board member Terry DeVries mentioned the condition of the south side canal
bank opposite T.S. Knight Park. An attempt will be made to coordinate efforts with
either the Canal Authority, DOT, or Wayne County to clean up what DeVries called an
eysore.
The golf tournament is scheduled for September 13.
The Annual meeting will be held as usual in October.
