Missing Sodus

daisies.jpg (12953 bytes)This week has been quite an interesting one, indeed. I fell off the bottom step of the deck and fractured my right foot. (Be sure to never injure the foot you drive with.) Needless to say, for the next five weeks we will be close to home - literally. I feel bad for people who have to wear a plaster cast for weeks on end. I have a removable cast and I can't wait to take it off at night!

Sarah has been up to her usual antics, but with a cast, it's much harder to keep up with her. (Before the cast, she also managed to zero in on my foot with her large paws.)

I received a nice e-mail from former Wayne County residents who keep up on the happenings by reading the column. She is the former Diane Hixon and grew up in Wolcott. Her husband is Louis DelPapa and he's from Lyons. They now live in North Carolina, but come back to visit as often as they can. Thanks to them for writing.

Helen Phillips, who retired from the Sodus Primary School in June, has many plans for her long vacation. Not long ago, she visited her sons in California where she had a great time. She says she's busy already, visiting friends and relatives. Also, she has signed up to volunteer at the Sodus Point Light House. During her lunch time, she can sit out on the bench and watch the boats. I'd like to have lunch there myself - Sodus Point is so relaxing.

oldlght2.jpg (13662 bytes)The Hooper's are busy, too. Eileen began work at a new hotel called the All-Star Movie Hotel this week. (Does this mean there are movie stars staying there or that there is movie memorabilia in the rooms? I guess I'd better ask and let you know.) Actually, the Hooper's should feel right at home at Disney - they've gone to visit for years. Say 'Hi' to Mickey for us, Eileen.

Don't forget the Summer Programs at the Sodus and Williamson Libraries. Summer Story Times for Williamson are Tuesday mornings at 10:30 from July 13 to August 3. Storytime is for children ages 4 and up. (Younger children may come if accompanied by an adult. Also, don't forget the Craft Celebrations on Tuesdays from 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. The crafts are a lot of fun. (I used to get many of my camp ideas for Tag A Longs from Mrs. Gravelle's craft days.) Children must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Have Fun!

Sodus has Storytime on Mondays, 10:30-11:30 for the beginner readers; Tuesdays from 1-2 is the Read to Me Club for Super Readers 4th grade and up; every other Wednesday features the PJ Storytime for Beginner Readers (preschool- Kindergarten), 7-7:30 p.m.

sducks.jpg (13012 bytes)Thursdays promise reading fun with the Reading Celebration for Intermediate Readers 1st through 3rd grades, and Crafts with Sandy on Fridays for the Super Readers grade 4 and up. (I haven't missed anyone, have I, Carol?) If you have any questions, call the library at 483-9292. (I always hung up the events calendar up on the refrigerator so I could keep track.)

Enjoy your week. If you have time, the Seneca Park Zoo has some new guests to see - the white rhino and ostriches. (I found the ostrich farm in Fairville, but never could find the one in Webster. The Llamas are fun to watch at the Llama farm in Fairville - they walk around the fields just like sheep and horses do.) There are many fun things to do during the summer - the beach in the morning, a picnic at the park and back to the beach at night to watch the boats and cool off. (Remember to take some bread when you go to Sodus Point - feeding the ducks is fun too.)
