Lyons residents bound for Kosovo

Donna Watkins, a member of St. Michael's Church of Lyons, and Rick Pinckney and Matt McCrossen, members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons, will be traveling to Albania and Kosovo to serve as volunteers in the refugee camps.

They will be working with traumatized children as members of a 'Kids Care Team.' Team leader, the Rev. Nancy Birdsong, a Presbyterian minister from Geneva, has organized the ecumenical delegation, which will be departing in mid-August. The seven-member delegation will be in the refugee camps for three weeks to help the children cope with the crisis that has displaced thousands of ethnic Albanians and Kosovar peoples.

Each member must raise his/her travel fare and hope to raise additional funds for medicines and equipment that is needed in the camps. If you would like to donate to their mission please make checks payable to the First Presbyterian Church, 11 Queen Street, Lyons NY 14489. (Be sure to note in the memo area of the check that it is for the Albania/Kosovo Mission.)

The team is also in need of a portable, battery-operated, short-wave radio. If you can help with this item please call the Presbyterian church at 315-946-4723.
