Crusoe House project gets grant The New York State Council on the Arts Architecture, Planning and Design Program recently awarded $1,200 in Technical Assistance Funds to the Crusoe Site Committee for the purpose of hiring an architect to complete an assessment of the Crusoe House in Savannah. The Crusoe House is the oldest existing building in the Town of Savannah and was a tavern and stagecoach stop during the 19th century. It was the site of the first town meeting organizing local government, and served as the community post office for many years. The Crusoe Site Committee is working to restore the Crusoe House so that it can be used as a museum of local history, which will enhance the educational and tourist opportunities to be offered by the proposed Nature Education Center in Savannah. The architectural assessment is a necessary part of the process of securing additional grant funds to stabilize the Crusoe House. Brochures and information about the Crusoe House project are available by contacting Kit Fallon at (315) 365-2664. Copyright
