Summer events at Lyons Library The Lyons Public Library is offering several programs of interest to families this summer. Registration for the 1999 summer reading club "Celebrate Read! at the Library" is June 21 through July 3 at the Library, 67 Canal St. This program is open to kids of all ages. Participants in the program are required to read a minimum of two hours a week. Those who complete each week's reading will receive a weekly prize and a ticket for the end of the summer grand prize drawing of $25. There will also be a weekly drawing, but weekly reading requirements must be met to be eligible. The prize drawings will be held Saturday morning for the previous week's reading. There's a Monday craft program for ages 3-12 at 1 p.m., starting July 6 and running for six weeks. Story hour for children ages 3 to 5 will start Thurs., July 8 at 11 a.m. and run for six weeks. Wednesday is Fun Day at the library. All events for Fun Day take place at 1 p.m. and are open to all ages. The schedule for Fun Day is as follows: Touch/Taste Competition on July 7 Children's Talent Show on July 14 Sidewalk Chalk Drawing on July 21 Crazy Tie-Dye T-shirts on July 28 100 Seconds Competition on August 4 Wildlife Educators of America on August 11. On Tuesdays at 1 p.m. starting July 6, Fun Film Flicks for children ages 3 through 12 will be shown. The library will again be sponsoring its Fourth Annual Young Adult Writing Contest for ages 12 to 18. Blank entry forms may be picked up at the library. Entries must be turned in between July 26 and July 31. Winners will be announced August 7. The library will also be running a series of YA Specialty Programs for ages 12 and older. All YA Specialty programs will take place on Fridays at 1 p.m. starting on July 9. The schedule is as follows: Cake Decorating Demo on July 9 Clown Make Up Demo by Mr. Beau on July 16 Summer Snacks Cooking Demo on July 23 Door Mural on July 30 Spatter Paint T-shirts on August 6 Kite Making on August 13.
