Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Another week of bright sunshine and trying to make up for the rain Mother Nature hasn't been sending to the plants and yard.

beachWell, school is over. (Feels like it just started!) Already my daughter is having sleepovers and keeping me on the run. I thought summertime was a time of relaxing, but with all the weddings, graduation parties, picnics and keeping the kiddies busy, I'm beginning to think that winter is the time to relax.

We received our Summer Reading Program package from the Williamson Library on Saturday and are excited about all the reading we will be doing. (Thank you, Mrs. Gravelle.) Carol from the Sodus Library will be sending us another package sometime this week. We are looking forward to getting it. It sounds like a lot of exciting things will be happening at the libraries this summer.

The Williamson Library will be having guests, Bubble Mania with Doug Rougeux will be there Wednesday, June 30 at 1 p.m. The multi-talented Larry Moss will be visiting in July and the Dinner Dogs will be whipping up some fun music for your dining pleasure in August.

With the Williamson program, we received a calendar to mark down the times that we read and a sheet where we will be placing the party animals. (The theme is parties you know, what's a party without a party animal?!) For each 15 minutes spent reading, or listening to a story or even just looking at a book, you get to fill in a square. When the sheet is filled you get to celebrate and hand in the sheet. You get a Party Animal for the party sheet and a "dollar" to spend at the Party Place store at the library. You fill up as many sheets as you'd like.

Summer Story times will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday mornings from July 13 through August 3 for kids 4 and up. Younger children may attend if accompanied by an adult. Also in July, there will be a Craft Celebration on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. I'll send you more information when we get closer to the time.

yardAt the Sodus Library, registration begins Monday, June 28. Program details will be handed out at that time. Highlights of the Reading Celebration include special storytimes, a read-to-me club, Crafts with Sandy (from the Kraft Shack), a porch picnic, Get Down with Bugs and Bears, and a singing performance from Tom Seiling. Registration includes preschool and up.

Sounds like a lot of fun happenings at both libraries. (We have always registered at both to double our fun.)

Sodus Library hours are:

Monday 10 - 1; Tuesday-Thursday Noon-8; Friday noon-5; Saturday 10-1; and Sunday 2-4.

Speaking of the library here are some fun books to read together.

Froggy Learns to Swim, Jonathon London

Froggy's First Kiss and Let's Go Froggy

The Lonely Only Dog, Adele M. Brodkin

D.W.All Wet, Marc Brown

D.W.Flips

Bathtime For Biscuit, Alyssa Satin Capucilli

The Little Green Dragon Steps Out, Klaus Baumgart

Mouse Count, Ellen Stoll Walsh

and The Magic House, Robyn Harbert Eversole

Sarah's Dog Training is now over. (There are days I think she learned a lot and other days she seems to forget everything she's learned. I guess that's to be expected she's still a youngster. I can't wait for her to calm down like Caesar - he's so quiet sometimes you can't find him and he's laying right there on the floor. Then Sarah attacks him and gets the commotion started again.)

Betty Simmons at the Country Pets and More Store has been busy, adding to her collection of Beanies, fish, birds and many other interesting critters. She is boarding two chinchillas for the Williamson Vocational School this summer. If you see Betty, tell her I said, 'Hi.'

Enjoy your week. Remember to register for the library programs - maybe even go on a trip to the beach. Remember to let me know what's happening

I haven't heard from the Hooper family as of yet. I'm sure they are busy unpacking. I hope to hear from them and you soon.
