Nichols captured first place in the 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle events, his fourth and fifth Sectional titles of his high school career. He was voted by the coaches as the meet's Most Outstanding Performer. His time of 46.87 in the 100 free is a new school record, (old record of 47.86 was set by Nichols at last year's New York State Meet) a new Finger Lakes league record, (old record of 46.98 set by Jeff Robinson in 1995) and a new Section 5 meet record (old record of 47.99 set in 1992 by Jeff Anthony of Victor. His time also qualifies him for All-American consideration and the Junior National meet in Buffalo on March 16-20. He will represent Newark and Section 5 at the New York State meet in East Meadow, Long Island on March 4 and 5. The winning time in the 200 freestyle was 1:44.50. His time establishes a new school record, (old record of 1:46.83 set by Rick at last year's Sectional meet at U of R) and a new Finger Lakes league record (old record of 1:44.90 set by Jeff Fahey (Weedsport, 1984).
