Remnants of last week's blizzard

childrenLast Thursday's blizzard, added with Saturday's accumulations, buried streets, cars and sidewalks. Many Wayne County residents were concerned about children having to walk to school Monday morning. (Rochester City Schools did not re-open until yesterday morning.)

The children pictured here stand in the street, waiting for the school bus, on Church Street, just east of Hoffman, Newark.

"free snow" sign Thursday's 24-hour record snowfall of 24.3 inches at Rochester International Airport disrupted transportation routes and public safety systems. Saturday, another 19 inches of snow fell on Rochester. Grand total - over 43 inches.

Local snowfall measured around 31 inches, according to weather watcher Brad Timerson. Snow has been plowed into piles up to eight feet in this area. But many make the most of our NY weather, and even poke fun. The "free snow" sign is on Grace Avenue, Newark.
