Lydian Winds at Lyons church

The Lydian Winds trio will play a free concert at the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons on Sunday, March 28 at 7 p.m. The concert is part of the 1999 Lenten Concert Series.

The Lydian Winds was formed in 1988, almost by accident. Its members having met as principal players of the Finger Lakes Symphony, they originally started playing chamber music together as part of a woodwind quintet. As fate would have it, the quintet's clarinet and French Horn Players, married to each other, moved out of the area and left behind a trio composed of a flute, oboe and bassoon.

The repertoire has expanded over the years from music of Baroque and classical composers such as JS Bach, Quantz, Haydn, Mozart, to that of later years including compositions of Kummer, Beethoven, Peter Schickele and a word written for the Lydian Winds by Rochester composer, Paul Agosto.

Jeanine Beahan, flutist with the group, teaches instrumental music in the Livonia School District and the Hochstein Music School. Lorraine Jones, bassoonist, teaches instrumental music in the Waterloo Central School district and Steve Jones, oboe player, is the woodwind technical at Hickey's Music center in Ithaca. All three continue to perform with the Finger Lakes Symphony and freelance in the Rochester area.
