Newark Raptors release roster The Newark Raptors of the Northeastern Collegiate Baseball League have released their opening day roster for the 1999 season. An exhibition game on June 8 at Colburn Park opens the season. The regular season starts June 11 in Wellsville, with the home opener on June 13 against Geneva. The roster features players from all over the country, including some of the top programs in the country. Some notables are Enrico Jones (OF) and Ryan Carroll (pitcher), both redshirt freshman from Mississippi State University (currently ranked #17 in the nation). Also, there will be two players from the University of Florida (Matt Heath and Dave Klebonis) and three from the University of Arizona (Brad Hassey, Rob Schulz and Sam Shelton). Both Florida and Arizona have spent part of this season in the top 25. Local flavor will be added by Casey Saucke, a junior outfielder from LeMoyne College in Syracuse. He played his high school ball at Churchville-Chili. Other schools being represented on the Raptors roster are Arkansas-Little Rock, Campbell University and Southeast Missouri State. These three schools were represented last year by Saxon Berry (1-0, 11 saves), Corey Byrd (7-0, Most Outstanding Pitcher) and Darin Kinsolving (Team MVP), respectively. Copyright © 1999 |
