Newark Village Board briefs Colonial Drive Posted: The Newark Village Board voted at Tuesday night's meeting to post Colonial Drive with a 2-hour parking limit during school hours. No one appeared at the public hearing on the matter to voice opposition or support for the change. Mayor Fred Pirelli indicated that he had received a letter concerning the proposal, but declined to read the letter because it was unsigned. The board voted to adopt the 2-hour restriction after village attorney Art Williams advised the trustees that no further hearings were needed on the matter. Colonial Drive residents have been complaining about High School students parking at the west end of the street all day because they are unable to park in school parking lots for various reasons. A resolution was drafted and approved unanimously by the board acknowledging a meeting that will be held November 10 to obtain public reaction to a proposed New York State Thruway exit in the Newark/Phelps area. Pirelli read a statement supporting the plan, indicating that "such an exit would improve the quality of life in the village of Newark in the following manner:"
A resolution was approved by the board, awarding the contract for tree removal and services to Empire Tree Surgeons, of Rt 88 S. Two bids were received. Empire's bid was $9,600 and a bid from Davey Tree Co. was for over $26,000. The bid was awarded to Empire. Village attorney Art Williams brought the fact that this disparity has happened for three years in a row, and that maybe Davey Tree does not understand the bid forms. In other village business:
