Missing Sodus Well, November is here and the weather certainly feels it today! Time for the mittens and warm hats. I guess we couldn't deny it forever. What a shock, though - the leaves have been blown right off the trees. (That will happen with 50-mile an hour wind gusts.)
I had asked Carol Garland of the Sodus Library about the new Harry Potter series. I had noticed how many children at the school are excited about the books and, of course, I didn't want to miss out. She told me that they are a real delight and people of all ages enjoy reading them. There has been some controversy in the newspaper about them (mainly in the South) due to the mention of magic and wizards. Good overcomes Evil, Intelligence reigns over Stupidity, and everyone has a rousing good time - a series to be enjoyed. Apparently there is quite a reserve list for them. We, of course, have our own book list to share with you. (Once we get into the Harry Potter Books ,we'll let you know how we like them.) Don't forget to check in at the Sodus and Williamson libraries for their Storytimes. (I'm thinking that when I get older, like 90-ish, my kids can take me to some type of storytime. After all, I did take them.) The Sodus Rotary Club is looking for local youths for their International Student Exchange Program. If your student is between 16 and 18, and you think may be right for this overseas exchange, contact Ralph Deen-Clingan at 483.6177. (And what's this I hear about them collecting 'Snuggly Sweaters?')
Veterans Day is Thursday. Do you talk to your kids about Veterans Day? Or is it just another day off of school? There will be a dinner and Civil War presentation at the Williamson American Legion at 6 p.m. Many local boys will be out Scouting for Food tomorrow. They'll hang bags on your doors with instructions, then they'll pick up the bags next Saturday. The food that's collected stays in our local food pantries, so please give generously. The Pine Orchards will be having a Square Dance on November the l3 at 8 p.m. It's located north of Lyons on Route 14. French students from Sodus and Williamson schools leave November 19 on a ten-day trip to France and Switzerland. How exciting! The Neighborhood Acting Company's production of Annie opens Friday, November 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the new Wayne Central High School Auditorium, (1/2 mile south of Route 104 on Route 350). Two more performances are scheduled Saturday, November 20 at 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. In the title role as the 11-year-old, red-headed orphan is Rianna Mayou, 12, of Sodus. Ticket prices are $7 advance or $10 at the door for evening performances and $5 for the matinee. Reserve by calling or 524.7463. Remember to keep me updated on the events in your life, school field trips, fun things you like to do this time of year. And please keep Father Dave Faraone in your prayers for a speedy recovery. Have a great week. (Dig out those hats and mittens, just in case.) Copyright © 1999 |
