Williamson youth plan trip to Israel

The Youth Fellowship of the Williamson United Methodist Church has decided to undertake the challenge of a fascinating ten day tour and mission-trip to Israel in February of 2001. This pilgrimage to the Holy Land shall be led by Pastor Brian Homan, who has previously traveled and taught in the lands of the Bible. The purpose of the tour is to bring the Bible to life for those who have only read and studied the stories of their faith. Biblical sights will be seen, as the Scriptures are studied daily.

The entourage shall visit Capemaurn, the home of Peter, and worship aboard a boat on the Sea of Galilee. They shall share communion at Tabgha, where Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes; renew vows of baptism in the river Jordan; walk the Garden of Gethsemane; visit Golgatha - known as the place of the skull, where Christ was crucified; and visit the Garden Tomb, where many believed Jesus' body had been placed.

A secondary purpose of the tour is to acquaint students with the contemporary issues which engulf the land of Palestine. Diane Roe, a UM missionary from Corning has agreed to coordinate a time and place for participants to perform service work at a Palestinian Christian school or village, where the United Methodist Church is actively engaged in mission.

The tour is scheduled for Monday, February 5 - Wednesday, February 14, 2001 with arrangements coordinated through Journeys Unlimited of New York. The trip will cost $1600, including airfare, hotels, sight fees, and meals. Though planned as a youth event, any interested adults are invited to participate. The greater number of participants, the greater the potential savings we can provide our Youth who may want to go, but who may not have the financial means to afford such a trip. The Youth Fellowship will be engaged in raising funds in the effort to provide scholarships to assist in lowering the cost for teens who will be going. The public is invited to watch for these coming events to support the youth.
