Habitat holds Phoenix celebration in Newark Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County held a celebration last Sunday in Newark. Mary and Stephen Khauka and their children, Davis, Denis, Sarah, Rachel, and Eric are the homeowners for the house on Hoffman Street, Newark. The house was damaged by a fire last spring. Debbie Van Auken and her family donated the house to Habitat to renovate. It is located on Hoffman Street. She got the idea from the Oprah Winfrey TV show. Habitat for Humanity builds houses for people who earn between $19,000 and $26,000. Families give 400 hours of labor to build thier home or someone else's home. Work will continue on the Hoffman Street house throughout the winter. Volunteers are welcome to stop during the week or on Saturdays, when someone is there working.
