Marion's Community Christmas Program On Wednesday, December 15, at 7:30 p.m. the Marion High School will host the annual Marion Community Christmas Program. This program was started back in the 1930's with Margaret Curtis as the co-ordinator for many of those years. The program has grown over the years. Initially, the White Gift Program consisted of donated gifts wrapped in white paper for needy families in Marion. Then the churches and schools of Marion picked up the Christmas spirit and became a part of the program. Students hold a food drive and provide the evening's entertainment, and Dan McClure's shop class provides many wooden toys for the children. Marion Shurfine Food Market offers the redeemable certificates at a discount. The churches and community provide the ushers and the drivers needed for the plants and food baskets. Explanation of the program will be done by the Reverend Don Meyers, pastor of the United Church. Food baskets, and gift certificates are presented to the needy families in the Marion Community. Our elderly, nursing home care and hospitalized are remembered with poinsettia plants at Christmas and hyacinths at Easter. Any gifts donated both for children and for the shut-ins of the community are also distributed. As you enter and leave the Winter Community Christmas Concert, you may leave your donations at tables with decorated boxes - where money goes to needy families in our community. If you would like to either give or receive, you are welcome to reach any of the committee members or the nurses office at the Elementary or High School.
